Discovery Preschool: A School Readiness Program

IMPORTANT UPDATE

03-18-2020 We have decided we will be able to safely and responsibly still prepare for the very near future that is the start of the 2020-2021 school year at Discovery Preschool. We will NOT have open classrooms, and a bare-minimum of staff will be available to help collect enrollment documents from 4:30-5:30 tomorrow evening in the La Crescent-Hokah Elementary Lobby. If lines form, we will extend into whatever space is necessary to ensure we are complying with social distancing guidelines. Enrollment information and forms are available from the ISD 300 website. If at all possible, please arrive with your forms completed and $25 non-refundable enrollment fee in hand so that we can make our contact as efficient and effective as possible.

Take a peek at all we have to offer...Discovery Preschool is brought to you by La Crescent-Hokah Community Education, a program of La Crescent-Hokah Public Schools and a proud partner of Semcac Head Start, an equal opportunity program. La Crescent-Hokah Early Childhood Discovery Preschool takes its name and purpose very seriously. We work every day to ensure a wellrounded and developmentally appropriate preKindergarten experience that lays the foundation for a successful K-12 experience and beyond. Our team of highly-trained and experienced staff ensure the delivery of a State approved and research-based curriculum that is carefully aligned with the Minnesota ECIPs (Early Childhood Indicators of Progress) and the State K-12 curricular standards; but more importantly, we put the needs and interests of each individual child at the center of every decision we make.

Discovery Preschool programming addresses all areas of your child’s development; social emotional, large and small motor, language, and cognitive. Discovery Preschool takes great pride in being able to offer preschool that truly prepares the whole student for Kindergarten. One of the greatest assets of Discovery Preschool is its location in La Crescent-Hokah Elementary. Attending preschool in the elementary building allows your student access to the entire facility including onsite surround care (Kids' Company), food service that includes options for breakfast and lunch, two gymnasiums, a full playground, the entire elementary library, as well as technology resources. In addition, staff and students are privileged to benefit from having the expertise of a licensed school nurse, educational psychologist, and specialist educators on site.

We have decided we will be able to safely and responsibly still prepare for the very near future that is the start of the 2020-2021 school year at Discovery Preschool. We also want to note: Construction and remodeling at the elementary will be starting as soon as the frost is out this spring!  We can hardly wait to see our new school and classrooms take shape. As you might expect, this process will temporarily reduce the number of classrooms at the primary building.  Discovery Preschool will be relocating to our own wing at the middle school building just to make space while construction is happening. In an effort to make sure this transition is as comfortable as possible, we would like the opportunity to share our thoughts, plans, and ideas and hear yours. We will be holding monthly early childhood transition plan sharing sessions in January and February leading up to the move.  We would love for you to join us, either to listen, ask questions, or just to get to know the parents of your child’s classmates better. Please plan to attend regardless of whether your child will be a returning or prospective Discovery Preschool student. Those meetings will be held:

  • Monday, Jan 20, 6pm-7pm                    Early Childhood Transition Plan Sharing Session @TBA

  • Monday, Feb 24, 6pm-7pm                    Early Childhood Transition Plan Sharing Session @ TBA
