Please put Thursday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. on your calendars. I would like to take 90 minutes of your time to introduce myself, but more importantly, I want to be able to share some insight into what I have found in working as your superintendent for the past five months.
Via slide show and video, I want to discuss the things that are happening at La Crescent-Hokah Public Schools, including academic success and challenges, and co-curricular success and challenges. I will provide some of our work and ideas to improve student learning. I will go over survey results and curriculum status and changes that we are considering based on those results. I will also share information about our facilities and the challenges we face with them.
I will introduce our architectural partners, HSR Associates of La Crosse, and discuss how I would like everyone in the community to be part of the discussions of how we can move forward addressing our needs and making a plan. HSR is starting a facility analysis this week and it will take some time to complete, but they will be able to assist in estimating costs for the repairs and improvements our facility and educational programs need. It is not only a question of what we need to do, it is also a question of how we pay for it.
This is financial planning in its purest form and we need to work together to find an acceptable way of accomplishing what we feel we need to do. This could include short- and long-term plans to move forward. I am planning future community input sessions at the end of January – we would have six meetings, one every other week. If you cannot make the Dec. 17 meeting, please contact me and let me know that you would like to be part of the discussions moving forward. I need to have as many people as possible involved in making decisions.
The public is invited to be part of the planning that will impact our students’ education and learning, preparation for their future, and the growth of our community from our students’ standpoint. I would like to continue to partner with groups, organizations and businesses to train and prepare our young people to be ready to contribute to the La Crescent-Hokah area and stimulate a stronger economy and welcoming environment.
It is a great day to be a Lancer, but that does not come without some collaboration and planning. Please come and listen, be informed, and provide the input we need to make good educational decisions, while listening to be able to understand the district’s perspective and needs. I will have my fall survey open until Friday, Dec. 11. If you have not yet completed the survey, do so before that time.
