I have been asked many times by residents about the failed referendum and what will I do to follow up that event. The first thing I want to do is to take the role of a leader and guide the community through what I believe will be some important steps to gather input from the district patrons and taxpayers.
On Wednesday, Nov. 18, we will be selecting firms to interview and to work with us to examine the past referendum, do a facility analysis, and conduct meetings to discuss with community members what they feel we need to do moving forward. I have created a survey that is found as a link on the district website. I am asking everyone to take the time to complete the survey and provide some input on what you believe is a good direction to move forward.
The areas the survey focuses on are educational offerings, technology, teaching and learning, educational facilities, and communication. I want everyone to take the survey, not just those that have students in our buildings. I expect that there may be more surveys in the future for you to fill out as we go. I am expecting that we will spend several nights discussing personally what will be best for our students and what we need to do to improve student learning.
In December, I will hold a public meeting to present positive attributes, challenges and pose the question of how can we move forward making progress in the district. At that meeting, I will present some of the results of the survey linked to this article, as well as other surveys that have been done in the past. I will also ask for your participation in community input meetings to start in January through mid-March to determine our next steps.
Please help me with step one: gathering information on what the feeling of the community is and what direction we should take moving forward. The survey link is found on the district website,www.isd300.k12.mn.us. You will find in the center a link called “Conference Survey Fall 2015.” Please complete the electronic survey and provide any written examples that you can for us to better understand your reasoning and thoughts.
Thank you for your time filling out this survey. In the future, I will put out a notice of the date that I will hold the public informational meeting in December. It will be in the Houston County News and on the district website, as well as on signs in the buildings regarding the date, time and location of the meeting.
