This last month we worked with Eileen Krenz and the Chamber to provide some career information opportunities for our high school students. We organized a panel of health care professionals and created time during our flex period for students to self select. It went very well with about 25 students choosing to attend to learn more about Nursing, Physician Assistant, and Chiropractic careers. We will continue to explore other options and look for future offerings as well.
The middle school has started their penny drive to help support the local animal shelter. This was very successful last year and the hope is it will be again this year too. This is part of the advisory program and fits with the monthly theme of sharing. Students will be participating in other activities this month as well.
Our music department has been very busy with several concerts occurring over the last several weeks. Mr. Chapman, Ms. VandeBerg, and Ms. Swerman have all been working hard to prepare these groups for these community performances. Students have performed very well. Winter Activities are well under way and we have already hosted several home events.
HVED updated us at the last Principal Advisory meeting on several items. First, we continue to work through some challenges with targeted services. We are servicing kids and meeting needs, the challenges have been with some of the reporting and prompt payments for our staff. HVED is closer to being fully up and running in that regard. Districts continue to look at tiers of support for students. Everyone is trying to stretch resources as far as they can. Ourselves included. Jay and I will be participating in a review in the months ahead.
